Swift action by elected representatives and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike authorities led to the evacuation of six people from a house that was about to collapse in 6th Cross in Indiranagar locality in Rajajinagar on Sunday. The house, constructed on a small plot, has two floors and belongs to an anganwadi worker and her husband, who works as an office attendant.

Rajajinagar Councillor H.R. Krishnappa said all the residents had been evacuated and the house would be demolished on Monday. “The house was poorly constructed and developed cracks when the residents tried to dig the ground to make a fireplace . We have no option but to demolish it.”

The BBMP provided compensation of Rs. 5,000. Rajajinagar MLA S. Suresh Kumar, who visited the house, posted on a social networking site that they planned to get a new house constructed for the family.
