Six labourers were injured and some others feared trapped when part of an under construction building caved in near Bangalore on Tuesday, police said.

Building authorities claimed that none was trapped under the debris but local residents suspect some labourers may be trapped, sources said.

Though the incident occurred at 3 am, building authorities did not bother to alert police and started clearing the debris themselves. However, some residents alerted police who rushed to the spot, sources said.

The injured, who hail from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, have been admitted to hospital and fire brigade personnel are clearing the debris.

Bangalore city corporation councillor Nandini Shrinivas, who visited the spot, said “the actual picture will be known only after the debris is cleared”.
