Thieves broke into the house of the former Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil in Sadashivanagar on Friday night and escaped with 3 kg silver estimated to be worth Rs. 3 lakh.

According to the police, Mr. Patil and his family were asleep when the thieves broke in through the back door. They escaped with silver idols of deities and other silver ornaments kept in the puja room though there was a security guard at the front gate.

The Sadashivanagar police said the burglars took advantage of the vacant land behind the house.
