The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organised a signature campaign here on Monday to show its support to the Delhi gang-rape victim who passed away on Saturday.
A banner was put up on a wall at the Mysore Bank Circle. DYFI members were seen urging passers-by to sign the banner and express their solidarity with them. A condolence meeting was held at the end of the campaign.
Lingaraju from DYFI, Bangalore, said, “This is to show our support against the atrocities against women. We want to observe a day in 2013 as a day against the atrocities on women.”
Dickyi, a student from St. Martha’s Nursing College who was one of the hundreds of citizens who have signed the banner, said that the campaign helped create awareness about the gruesome incident.
Nanda, student of Vijaya College, pointed out that more such campaigns should be held to create awareness among citizens. Vijayalakshmi C., another student, said that such campaigns would ensure that people don’t forget what has happened.
Anant Nayak, State president, Students Federation of India (SFI), who spoke to the passers-by, said, “Society should work towards equality among men and women. This change cannot be brought about by a government or the laws; it is we, as society, who have to work towards change.”
