Ending months of speculation, Siddaiah, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, was posted as in-charge Commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday. Incumbent Commissioner Rajneesh Goel has reportedly gone on leave for 15 days.
Soon after taking charge, Mr. Siddaiah told The Hindu that over the next 15 days he would concentrate on resolving the garbage crisis, pothole filling and road maintenance and revenue augmentation.
“Garbage seems to have raised a lot of dust; it has stabilised a bit now. However, there still are some issues that need to be worked out. All these challenges can be combated,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources in the BBMP said that Mr. Goel had been asked to go on leave following unrelenting criticism over his handling of the garbage crisis.
The sources said that the government cannot transfer Mr. Goel at the moment, as he is in charge of the electoral roll revision.
