Town Planning officials at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have asked Prestige builders to stop work near High Point apartments, and have issued a show-cause notice for not constructing a retaining wall around the site before taking up excavation work.
The notices were issued after Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy, along with BBMP Town Planning officials and ward engineers, visited High Point apartments near the Basaveshwara Circle on Friday. Residents of the apartment complex, which is next to the construction site, drew his attention to cracks that have appeared on the compound wall of the building.
On Thursday night, a car belonging to one of the residents that was parked inside the apartment complex, was damaged after a portion of the compound wall caved in.
Retaining wall not built
Mr. Murthy said that while the Prestige Group, which is constructing an apartment complex, has taken permission for a 23-floor building, but a retaining wall at a distance of 2 metres from the site has not been built.
“The builder has excavated around 40 feet without constructing retaining walls,” he said.
Also the builders had not taken a commencement certificate, he added. “For all these reasons, I have directed the Town Planning officials to serve a notice. Until the retaining wall is built, work cannot proceed,” he said.
Repeated attempts to seek the group’s response went unanswered.
