A gift shop in Kanak Nagar was gutted on Tuesday due to suspected electric short-circuit.

When the shop-owner opened the shop, he noticed the fire and tried to douse it but later called the fire control room at around 7.10 a.m. Motorcycle fire fighters rushed to the spot and tried to put out the fire.

But they had to call for reinforcement when the fire began to rise.

The fire tenders came at around 8.50 a.m., one and half hours later, and it took over an hour to douse the fire.

The shop situated in Sultanpalya was three-storeyed building. There were six houses on the first second and third floor and the residents were evacuated to safety by the people.
