The skeleton of a young man, apparently bludgeoned to death some two months ago, was found in his room in Chikkajala police station limits on Thursday.

The police said the assailants must have smashed the victim's head with a boulder that was found lying near the skeleton.

The dead man, the police suspect, is Premjith Singh from Uttar Pradesh, part of a trio from that State working in ready-mix concrete units here and who had rented the room in Sonnappanahalli from Muthamma in November 2011.

Ms. Muthamma, who lives in Chikkajala, used to visit them once in two months to collect the rent.

She did not know much about her tenants, who were prompt in paying the rent, the police said.

When the landlady came there Thursday morning, she found the room locked from the outside.

It was when she investigated further that she saw the skeleton.

She informed the police and they broke open the door. They suspect the other two tenants to be the murderers. The room had been locked for the past two months, the police said, quoting residents in the area. The Chikkajala police, who have registered a case, have sought the assistance of forensic experts to crack the murder.

The body of a two-year-old boy was found in a pit filled with muddy water in Doddakallasandra on Thursday morning.

The Subramanyapura police, who have registered a case of unnatural death, said that they were yet to ascertain the child's identity.
