Celebrated actor Shabana Azmi is back in the city to take part in the performance of Broken Images, to be staged at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on July 19, 7.30 p.m.

The play, written by Girish Karnad, produced by Raell Padamsee and directed by Alyque Padamsee, is being presented by the India Foundation for the Arts.

A press release said that the hour-long play is a psychological thriller that rips the mask off a celebrity. It revolves around Manjula Sharma, a not-so-successful Hindi short-story writer, who suddenly becomes wealthy and internationally famous by writing a bestseller in English.

Manjula is haunted by the question on whether in opting for the global audience, she had betrayed her own language and identity. Without warning, it’s her own image that decides to play confessor, psychologist and inquisitor.

Donations received through the performance will be used by IFA to continue grant making in the arts. Tickets can be booked on www.indianstage.in or www.bookmyshow.com. Call 2341 4681/ 82/ 83 for more information.
