Sexual harassment reported at BU PG centre in Kolar

May 12, 2014 12:13 pm | Updated 12:13 pm IST - BANGALORE:

An alleged case of sexual harassment has been reported from Bangalore University’s Postgraduate Centre in Kolar. While no police complaint has been filed by the victim — a research scholar — against her guide, she has given a written complaint to Vice-Chancellor B. Thimme Gowda.

Referred to cell

Prof. Gowda told The Hindu that the matter had been forwarded to the university’s sexual harassment cell. “We have also asked the research guide to go on two weeks’ leave. The inquiry will be conducted by the cell to check the genuineness of the complaint and take necessary action. Both parties will be summoned,” he said. A 2001 circular regarding the safety of women faculty members, non-teaching staff and research scholars, urging them to take precautions while remaining on campus after work hours, has been re-issued.
