The police arrested a family of four — including a man, his two sons and a daughter-in-law — for allegedly murdering a housekeeping supervisor of a private company and burning the body to conceal his identity.

The Mahadevapura police, who found a partially burnt body in a gunny bag in Garudacharpalya on December 11, identified the deceased as Saravana Kumar (26), a housekeeping supervisor at Brigade Metropolitan apartments.

The police, who went through his mobile calls, discovered the last call for was a girl who reported to him as housekeeping staff at the apartment complex.

Police said Saravana used to sexually harass the girl, aged around 17, forcing her to quit. But he kept at it and on December 10, he called her asking her to come and collect her back wages. When the girl came, Saravana paid her, but followed her to her house in Garudacharpalya and misbehaved with her.

She complained to her husband, Obalesh (25), a construction labourer, who asked him to come in.

The two had a heated argument and in the skirmish, Obalesh hit Saravana’s head with a wooden stave, killing him. The couple fled the house, locking it with the body inside, returning the following morning with Obalesh’s father Venkataramana (60) and brother Mahesh (22).

Venkataramana and Mahesh packed the body in a cement sack and dumped it in an isolated place nearby, where they poured kerosene and set it on fire.

The family then vacated the house and escaped to their native Chandrashekharpuram in Andhra Pradesh. They were arrested by the Mahadevapura police there.
