The Subrahmanyapura police have arrested a 20-year-old sex worker who along with five of her associates robbed the owner of brothel where she was operating.

The accused, Ashwini, a resident of Peenya, was working in the brothel owned by Rajeshwari in Doddakallasandra. Rajeshwari, who owns a beauty parlour and also works as volunteer for a city-based NGO for AIDS patients, ran the brothel without the knowledge of her husband. She used to get clients to her house when her husband and children were away.

Ashwini, who noticed Rajeshwari having lots of money, hatched a plan to rob her. As per the plan Ashwini went to Rajeshwari’s house on February 2. Ananda (25), Pawan Kumar (19), M. Bharath (18), Revanna (20) and Charan (19), barged into the house posing as her brothers and blackmailed Rajeshwari to extort money.

However, their plan went awry when Rajeshwari’s husband Vinay Govindaraj, a real estate broker, returned home in the afternoon unexpectedly and confronted the gang. Sensing danger the gang attacked the couple with pepper spray and beat them up badly before robbing gold valuables and mobile phones worth over Rs. 1 lakh.

Hearing the commotion neighbours rushed out and witnessed the drama, while one of them noted down the registration number of the car in which the gang had come.

Rajeshwari, in order to conceal her activities, mislead the police stating that it was a robbery. However the car number which was handed over to the police helped the police to bust the gang.

Based on their information, a team of police led by Subramanyapura Sub-Inspector C.R. Arjun tracked down the accused from Kerala where they had taken shelter. The police have also recovered the gold valuables and mobile phones and the car.

The accused have been booked under charges of dacoity and remanded to judicial custody.
