Seven-year-old dies after wheelie attempt goes astray

Accident took place in Chikkajala on Thursday evening

A seven-year-old girl was killed when a man, attempting to performing stunts on his motorcycle, knocked her down near Chikkajala on Thursday evening.

Around 4 p.m., Sahana was standing outside her house at Uttanahalli off the airport road in the hope of watching the evening firecrackers display in the neighbourhood. Around this time, Raju, 25, who resides nearby, was speeding down the road performing wheelies.

Traffic police said he lost control of the bike, veered to the side and knocked down Sahana. She suffered multiple injuries. Bystanders rushed her to a private hospital.

On the other hand, Raju abandoned the motorbike and fled from the spot. Around 6 p.m., Sahana breathed her last.

While Raju is still absconding, Chikjala Traffic Police and their Bagaluru counterparts detained Raju’s friend who was reportedly witness to the incident.

Upset with the death, scores of people gathered at the spot.

Police said the family is yet to file a complaint and was busy with the last rites.

“We hope to get a statement from them on the accident. As the youth belongs to the same colony, the family is hesitant to come forward with a complaint. We will take up a suo motu complaint if they do not give a statement,” said a senior police officer.
