December 24, 2014 11:05 pm | Updated 11:05 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Seven women were robbed of their gold chains in the city since Tuesday evening. Rajeshwari (68), a resident of Govindarajanagar, was standing near the gate of her home when two persons came to her and asked her the direction to a particular place. Even as she was going to reply, the duo snatched her chain but it got stuck near her ear. The duo pulled it so hard that her ear was damaged and she started bleeding. The duo fled, but Rajeshwari collapsed and was injured. .

Three other women were also robbed of their chains in the way Rajeshwari was. Robbers employed the same method of approaching them and asking for direction to a particular place, and even when they were trying to reply they were robbed. Police identified the victims as Usha (60) of Prashant Nagar, Padmavathi (52) from Shastri Nagar in Thyagrajanagar, and Bhagyamma, a resident of Anjanappa Layout in Kumaraswamy Layout.

In the fifth incident, Bharathi (53), a resident of HBR Layout, was walking home from a nearby shop when two motorcyclists followed her and robbed her of her gold chain before speeding off on their vehicle.

Komala, a retired bank employee, had a similar experience. She was walking home on the National High School Road when a man followed her and snatched her chain. Immediately after that he sped away on a motorcycle that was parked a few metres away from the scene of the crime.

In another incident, Elena D’ Souza, a private firm employee, was robbed of her chain though she was in her car and had stopped at the Silk Board junction and waiting for the signal to turn green. Just beside her car, two motorcycle-borne men stopped their vehicle at the junction. Even before she could realise, they snatched her chain and sped away.
