To ensure smooth flow of traffic in the central business district, the State Cabinet on Thursday decided to upgrade seven major roads in the city at a cost of Rs. 78.83 crore.
Addressing presspersons here after a Cabinet meeting, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs T.B. Jayachandra said bids would be invited under Tender SURE (Specification for Urban Road Execution) project for road upgradation works.
Roads to be upgraded are St Mark’s Road, Residency Road, Richmond Road, Cunningham Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Commissariat Road, and Museum Road.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) would upgrade these roads.
The Minister said the decision was taken to avoid traffic congestion in the central business district of the State capital.
The BBMP had discussed the road projects in detail and negotiated the price for works.
Tank authority
Mr. Jayachandra said the Cabinet had decided to set up a State-level Tank Authority to prevent encroachment of tank areas across the State. Nearly 6,000 tanks vanished in the State following encroachment, he said.
The number of minor irrigation tanks had come down from 36,000 to 28,000. Action would be taken to recover encroached areas of tanks, he said.
