A gang of seven, which had allegedly abducted a 22-year-old for ransom, was arrested. The victim, Sunil, a resident of OMBR Layout, works in his father’s office at Banaswadi, and was abducted on January 4 when he was returning home for lunch.
The gang stopped Sunil’s vehicle and said that he had damaged their car. When he alighted from his car and was seeing how much the damage was, he was pulled into the vehicle and driven away. The gang then called Ashok, Sunil’s father, and demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh. Mr. Ashok alerted the police, who asked him to engage the abductors in conversation so that their mobile could be tracked.
Then they trailed Mr. Ashok, who set out with a bag to hand over to the abductors. When the latter realised that there were policemen with him, they tried to flee on their two-wheelers. The registration number helped police trace them.
The arrested are Dayalu, Vijay, Rahim Khan, Suresh, Shaikh Ahmed, Saifulla and Syed Imran, all drivers. They are residents of Lingrajapura, Bagalur and Srirampura.
