The Samajika Parivartana Janandolana, a collective of various child rights organisations, has urged the State government to provide midday meals to all students in government and government-aided schools studying in classes from one to eight during summer holidays in April and May.

Referring to a circular from the Department of Primary and Secondary Education issued last month,

Y. Mariswamy, State organiser of the Samajika Parivartana Janandolana in a press release condemned the department’s decision not to implement the scheme in schools in areas that are irrigated. The organisation threatened to go on a Statewide protest if their demand was not met.
