Driver of vehicle that hit her arrested

A senior citizen was killed when a multi-utility vehicle knocked her down on National Highway 4 in Peenya here on Tuesday.

Rathnachala (65), a resident of Bhuvaneshwarinagar in Dasarahalli, was on her way with her older sister Lakshmi alias Pushpa (70) to hospital for the latter’s eye check-up.

The sisters left home around 5.30 a.m. and were crossing the road near Hesaraghatta Cross around 5.45 a.m. when the vehicle knocked down Rathnachala.

The driver, who failed to see the women crossing the road, rushed the injured woman to a hospital where doctors advised that she be shifted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital.

Rathnachala’s family members, who rushed to the hospital on learning about the accident, took her to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital around 10 a.m. where she was declared brought dead.

The driver left the vehicle near Sapthagiri Hospital and disappeared, the Peenya traffic police said.

However, he was later arrested, the police said.
