Semi-nude dance at 2009 party: resort owner, son arrested

May 30, 2013 12:40 pm | Updated 12:40 pm IST - Bangalore:

Bangalore Rural police arrested the owner of S.R. Valley Resort in Doddaballapur and suspended a police officer after footage of semi-nude women dancing at the resort surfaced on TV Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) D. Prakash said the resort owner, Sampangi Ramaiah, and his son, Chandru, were remanded in judicial custody. Though Mr. Ramaiah claimed he had filed a complaint with the Doddaballapur police in 2010 over the incident, the police failed to find any record of the complaint and therefore suspended Siddalingappa, who was Circle Inspector at the time.

The police said on October 9, 2009, a private company, JVR Agri Chemicals, hosted a party where 60-70 men and 7or 8 women, all from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh were present.

Though the incident took place way back in 2009, the footage of the dance was released to the media and handed over to the police only on May 27, 2013 by an office-bearer of a pro-Kannada outfit.

Superintendent of Police Prakash pointed out that though Mr. Ramaiah had filed a police complaint, it had been done so only a year later. Moreover, he said, the owner was responsible for allowing such illegal activities in his resort. Mr. Prakash said three special teams had been formed to investigate the case.

The police were looking for Govardhan, the former manager of the resort, and others who were at the party. A search was on to nab Manjunath and Shivanna, who were allegedly responsible for organising the party.
