Even as the exodus of people from the northeast reported a decline on Saturday, the Bangalore police deployed about 1,500 security personnel, including 600 Home Guards, across the city. This is in addition to three companies of Rapid Action Force and Central Reserve Police Force, which conducted a flag march.

Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji told presspersons that heavy police bandobast and patrolling would continue, with many senior officials in accompaniment, and special protection provided to the sensitive areas.

Stating that many peace meetings and mohalla meetings had been held, he said one more peace committee was formed in Neelasandra.

Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachau said he reassured his counterparts in all the seven northeast States that protection would be provided to their communities.

Security measures have been tightened in other parts of Karnataka as well and no arrests have been reported from there.

Meanwhile, officials in the cyber crime branch told The Hindu they were not involved in tracing the source of the inflammatory messages and that it had been undertaken by the city police.
