A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party’s chief media coordinator for Haryana offered a reward to anyone who beheads Deepika Padukone for her role in the film Padmavati , the Congress government in Karnataka — the actor’s home State — has provided round-the-the-clock security at her family home here in Bengaluru. In a tweet condemning the “culture of intolerance and hate perpetuated by BJP”, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote on Monday morning, “Karnataka stands with Deepika Padukone.”

He also tweeted out to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar urging him to take “strict action against those holding out threats against her”.

String of tweets

The Chief Minister was responding to a string of tweets by Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar condemning the attacks on the actor earlier. Within hours of the CM’s tweet, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy wrote to DG & IGP Neelamani N. Raju directing State police to provide security to the actor and her family.

The actor’s home in the city was given security cover by Monday evening.
