A 40-year-old scrap dealer was beaten to death in front of his wife in Tavarekere in the city in the early hours of Sunday.
The police said four armed miscreants barged into Mohammed Ali’s house in Mubarak Nagar and assaulted him with iron rods and clubs.
When Ali's shocked wife, Rahmathunissa, came to his rescue, the assailants reportedly gagged and tied her up.
The gang members continued to beat Mr. Ali killing him on the spot.
A little later, Rahmathunissa managed to untie herself and raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed to her help and shifted Mr. Ali to hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The Tavarekere police rushed to the spot and conducted investigations.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a financial row between Ali and the assailants could be the reason for the murder.
The police are waiting for Rahmathunisa to come out of the shock to identify the assailants.
