Even as there was a public outcry against a circular issued by a private school in Bangalore, cautioning the parents against certain provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, Janata Dal (Secular) activists gathered outside the school and staged a demonstration.

However, the school authorities were quick to withdraw the controversial circular and issue an apology. The controversial circular issued to parents of children studying in Bethany High School, Koramangala, sought to draw their attention to the adverse impact of certain provisions of the Right to Education Act.

The provision of the Act that has left several private schools unhappy is the one that provides 25 per cent reservation for economically disadvantaged communities in all private and minority schools by a simple random selection. The reservation is to start from Class 1 from 2011.

But, the school authorities, by withdrawing the circular, sought to close the chapter.
