School van runs over six-year-old in playground

A six-year-old boy was killed on the spot when a school van ran over him while he was playing in the school playground on Wednesday.

His mother had come to pick him up from school was waiting at the main gate when the tragedy took place.

The deceased, Manish, was a first standard student of Outreach School in Shantinagar. He was the son of Mahesh, a civil contractor, and Ashwini, a homemaker, residing in Sudhama Nagar.

According to the police, Manish was playing in the ground at around 2.45 p.m. when the van driver who was taking the vehicle in the reverse ran over him in the playground. A profusely bleeding Manish was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Manish was dropped and picked up by Ashwini everyday.

The Wilson Garden police have taken the van driver into custody and are further investigating the case. A case of death due to negligence has been booked against the driver. We are also probing negligence on part of the school and will take necessary action, an officer of the Wilson Garden traffic police said.
