Two boys, who went to swim in the Honnakalasapura lake near their school at Vinayaka Nagar in Anekal during their lunch break, drowned on Thursday.

Abhilash (13) and Divakar (14), Class 8 students of Sarasvathi Vidyamandira High School, got stuck in an area hollowed out for sand mining. However, other students with them, fearing punishment from teachers, ran away. It was passersby who alerted the police, but it was in vain.

In yet another case, Madhu Kumar (22) drowned in a swimming pool at Binnamangala taluk in Devanahalli on Thursday. He was a resident of Puttappagudi Layout.
