December 18, 2013 01:07 am | Updated 01:07 am IST - Bangalore:

A speeding lorry mowed down a 12-year-old schoolboy on the road to Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday morning. The police identified the dead boy as S. Suhail, student of MVM School.

According to the police, Suhail’s father Salim was dropping him and his younger brother to school when the incident occurred. Suhail was run over by a lorry when he was crossing the highway to reach the service road. He sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Salim was walking behind him with his younger son. Traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for some time following the accident. Angry passersby wanted the police to initiate measures to enable people and schoolchildren cross the busy road safely.

Jagadisha T.S., Chikkajala traffic police inspector, promised to put up a speed-breaker on the service road and post a constable at the junction to manage traffic and ensure the safety of schoolchildren.
