The school in Hosa Guddadahalli, where the seven-year-old was sexually assaulted, did not adhere to the basic safety guidelines issued by the Education Department more than five months ago and did not have any CCTV cameras installed.

Panels at work

The department, which constituted three-member committees to look into compliance of safety guidelines, is yet to collate the reports and penalise schools that have failed to implement them.

The school at Hosa Guddadahalli, established around three decades ago, has both aided and unaided sections with over 600 children.

Official’s take

Mohammad Mohsin, Commissioner for Public Instruction, said that action would be initiated against the school for not following the guidelines based on the report by the Block Education Officer concerned.

He said the BEO South Range 2, Nagarathnamma D. informed him that the principal had not received any complaint of sexual assault of children from parents earlier.

‘Teachers clueless’

Education Department officials said teachers of the school appeared “clueless” about the sexual assault and were not able to locate the parents of the victim. Mr. Mohsin said he had sought a detailed report and would decide the future course of action based on it.

The school, which has been vandalised by the mob, is expected to reopen on Monday.

The school, established around three decades ago, has both aided and unaided sections with over 600 children.
