Santhosh Padmanabhan: ‘Passion for sports and fitness activities can be life-changing.’

He’s not your average Bangalore techie. From a cushy job with a leading city microprocessor company, Santhosh Padmanabhan is now chasing his passions — fitness and children — and enjoying every moment of it.

From visiting schools for underprivileged children where he has designed programmes on health and science, mathematics and computer-based curriculum, he has trained children for Special Olympics and other running events. In fact, the 33-year-old runs because he likes to. As simple as that.

He started Runner’s High, a “social enterprise”, in 2009. “My biggest fear when I got out of engineering was not about security or earning,” he said. “Rather, I feared if I would just be sitting at home. Now, I don’t have enough time to document about what has been happening!”

Ever since it took off, Runner’s High has worked with children in Ananya Trust, Sita School, Spastics Society of Karnataka, Shristi Special Academy, Thulir, Snehadaan and Asha.

Professional team

He has a professional and well-equipped team of coaches, physiotherapists who offer training programmes for a nominal fee. “Our training programmes focus on fitness, developing a passion for running, while making it a fun and social activity.”

Santhosh has participated in marathons and half-marathons and more. He has run in the Grand Canyon, the Himalayas, Western Ghats, and several villages across India.

‘Life-changing’

“Running and passion for sports and fitness activities can be life-changing. When we venture into the realms of endurance events, the idea of training and accomplishing a target can have an enormous effect on self belief and personality.” All of which his big fan club of children and fitness enthusiasts will vouch for.
