A gang of six inter-State sandalwood thieves were arrested by the city police who also recovered sandalwood worth Rs. 50,000.
The accused have been identified as Amjadullah (45), Mujahidullah (19) and Imdad (20) from Bangalore, Kumar (30) from Tumkur, and Ramana (28) and Ranganatha (35) from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the police, the accused would travel around the city, find sandalwood trees on various properties, and later steal the sandalwood at night.
They would then sell it to a sandalwood oil factory at Amarapura in Andhra Pradesh.
Police said the accused have cases booked against them in Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli and Gangammanagudi police stations. They have seized a car and a two-wheeler from the accused.
Assault
A woman in her 30s was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by her husband on Tuesday morning at their house in Vijinapura in Ramamurthynagar police station limits.
The woman identified as Yasmeen Taj has been married to Mazar Sherief, a tailor, for nine years and has three children.
On Tuesday morning, during an argument with his wife, Mazar allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab her in the stomach. While he escaped, neighbours rushed her to hospital. She is said to be critical.
The police said Mazar was an alcoholic and used to allegedly harass his wife. They are on the lookout for him.
