The H.S.R. Layout police, on Thursday, arrested a 19-year-old salesman of a jewellery shop and recovered two gold necklaces that he had stolen from the shop.

The accused, identified as Ganesh Chinnilal, was caught red-handed at H.S.R. Layout while he was desperately trying to sell the gold valuables to passers-by at a throwaway price. The police recovered 850 gm of gold worth ₹25 lakh from him.

Ganesh Chinnilal was working as salesman for the past two years at Praveen Jewels, owned by Uttamchand Jain in Rajajinagar. The police said Mr. Jain trusted Ganesh since he was also from Rajasthan. Ganesh, who used to maintain the stock and accounts, reportedly would manipulate the records, steal the gold jewels and sell them at a throwaway price. He would use the money for his vices, police said.

The accused has been booked and remanded to judicial custody.
