Environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka, who was admitted to Victoria Hospital on Sunday night, is recovering and her condition is stable, said doctors.
Ms. Thimmakka has planted several trees and participated in many afforestation programmes and is a recipient of a number of awards. She was rushed to the hospital on Sunday following complaints of breathlessness. Her adopted son, Umesh B.N., said she was admitted to hospital after three days of ill-health.
Health Minister U.T. Khader, who visited her, said her condition was stable. He also said the State government would waive the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) charges for her.
J. Kantharaj, resident medical officer of Victoria Hospital, said she was hospitalised due to high blood pressure and asthma. “Her condition is stable now, and she is undergoing treatment in the ICU. We will shift her to the ward in a day or two,” he said.
Fulfil her wishes Mr. Umesh urged the government to fulfil her wishes, which include setting up of a maternity hospital in her hometown Hulikal in Magadi taluk. “Besides the Rs. 400 old-age pension, she does not receive any support from the government. They have given us a house in Chandapura, which is far away from the city. But we cannot stay there as there is neither water nor electricity supply,” he said.
