A sum of Rs. 70 lakh in cash has been found missing from a doctor’s apartment in Iblur.
The HSR Layout police suspect that the burglary, which came to light on Saturday, could have taken place between August 25 and 28.
They said the doctor, B.N. Jha, had told them that he had kept the cash in his flat in Suncity Apartments. Dr. Jha, who runs an acupressure clinic in Koramangala, stays in HSR Layout and used to visit the flat once in a while.
The police said they had not found any sign of a break-in or forced entry into the flat located in the fourth floor. “Nothing in the house was touched except the trunk containing Rs. 70 lakh kept under the cot,” the police said. “There are eight security check points in the apartment complex... It’s just the money that has gone missing, which indicates that the burglars had the knowledge about the cash,” a senior police officer said.
“The doctor told us that he had kept such a large sum of money at home since he was planning to buy a house in Koramangala. He, however, has not told us anything about the source of the money,” the officer said. The police said they were investigating as to whether or not the complainant had reported the cash to Income Tax authorities, and if there was any foul play involving his family members.
29 women rescuedThe Central Crime Branch sleuths recently rescued 29 women who were allegedly forced to perform in Sealand Bar and Restaurant in Koramangala 6th Block. The police arrested 16 employees of the bar. The owner, Ashok Rai, and managers Radhakrishna Rai and Gopalakrishna Rai, however, managed to escape. The police said the women were brought to the city from places such as Delhi and Mumbai on the pretext of employing them as bartenders. They were, however, forced to dance in bar, the police said.
