In a bid to speed up various civil works related to storm-water drains in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits, the State Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for tenders works for construction of retain walls at various stretches for the drains in Challaghatta valley and Koramangala valley costing Rs 57.85 crore.
Till now, eight tenders have invited for works but contractors have not come forward to take up works allegedly due to low cost quoted by the BBMP.
Briefing presspersons on the State Cabinet decisions, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said that the Cabinet approved tendering for a slew of works for construction of retaining wall and concrete covering at various stretches for the drains in Challaghatta valley which would cost over Rs 31crore.
It has approved tender works for construction of retaining wall and concrete covering at various stretches for the drains in Koramangala valley. The works would cost Rs 26.85 crore.
Road widening work from Broadway Road to Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar would cost Rs 11.27 crore, Mr Jayachandra said.
The Cabinet approved a signal-free corridor from Mekhri Circle to Hopefarm near Whitefied in the City at a cost of Rs140.91crore and another signal-free corridor from Silk Board Junction on Outer Ring Road to Mysuru Road junction at a cost of Rs153 crore, he said.
Yellow beacons:
The Cabinet permitted police officers and Deputy Commissioners to use yellow beacons atop of their official vehicles.
Following the directions of the Supreme Court, so far, the State government permitted only the Governor of the State, the Chief Minister and Ministers of Council of Ministers, the chairman of the Legislative Council, the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, the Chief Justice and sitting judges of the High Court of Karnataka are eligible to use red beacons on their official vehicles.
It also allowed ambulances and fire and emergency service vehicles to use red beacons. (EOM)
