The Lokayukta police searched the house of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) councillor Gowramma Govindaraju and confiscated documents related to property worth over Rs. 14 crore.

The property of the Congress councillor for Azadnagar is disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Following a tip-off, a team led by Superintendent of Police (Lokayukta) Shivaram Reddy also searched her driver Prakash’s house and confiscated documents pertaining to three sites in Chamarajpet valued at Rs. 2.21 crore, and a building each in Nanjamba Agrahara, Ramachandra Agrahara and Neikarara Colony valued at Rs. 7.76 crore. The team found the documents hidden in the bathroom.

Also seized were documents pertaining to 16 properties in Bangalore Rural district and also in Mysore. The councillor also possessed 10 acres in the name of her relative Yamaiah in Kumbalgod and Gollahalli.

The officials found 3.5 kg gold, 21 kg silver and three cars. A senior police official said search and scrutiny of more assets were still on.

“There was a complaint about the councillor’s [accumulation of wealth],” an official said.

A big bunch of documents has been seized, which is yet to be scrutinised. The Lokayukta police registered a case under Sections 13 (1) (e) read with 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
