The newly forged Congress-JD(S) alliance is facing teething troubles over the candidature for the Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly constituency.

The first round of talks between leaders of the coalition partners in the government on fighting elections together in Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency in Bengaluru failed to make headway, as the Congress nominee in the constituency declined to support the JD(S) candidate. Sources said that after the floor test on Friday, another round of talks would be held between alliance leaders.

With barely three days left for the elections (May 28) in Rajarajeshwarinagar, JD(S) leaders appealed to the Congress leaders to support its candidate, G.H. Ramachandra, in the constituency. Polling had been postponed here owing to the alleged electoral malpractices in constituency.

Muniratna determinedSources in the Congress said that Mr. Muniratna had decided to fight the elections and refused to “remain silent” in support of coalition partner candidate Mr. Ramachandra.

If the Congress extends its support to the JD(S) in R.R. Nagar, then the JD(S) has decided not to campaign for its party candidate in the Jayanagar constituency, where elections were postponed following the death of BJP candidate B.N. Vijayakumar.

Kale Gowda of the JD(S), Sowmya Reddy of the Congress, Independent candidate Ravi Krishna Reddy, B.N. Prahlad Babu, brother of the deceased former MLA Vijayakumar of the BJP, are in the fray in Jayanagar. Elections will be held on June 11.
