A rowdy-sheeter was shot at and injured by Rajgopal Nagar police when he tried to attack a cop in a bid to escape in Hegganahalli on Wednesday night.

The accused Nagaraju, alias spot nagar (23), has over half a dozen cases pending against him. He was on the run after robbing a woman in Rajgopal Nagar recently.

The police got a tip-off that Nagataju was hiding in Hegganahalli and a team led by Inspector Waseemulla rushed to the spot and surrounded him. Nagaraju tried to escape and attacked Waseemulla with a machette.

In self-defence Waseemulla opened fire injuring Nagaraju’s leg. Both were rushed to M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital where they are recuperating. The Rajgopal Nagar police have taken up a case and are investigating.
