Rotary International (District 3190) will observe World Polio Day on October 24 (Sunday). The day will mark the two-decade battle promoted by the organisation to eradicate polio.

M.K. Panduranga Setty, past Rotary International Director and Vice-Chair of Polio Plus – South East Asia Regional Organisation, told reporters here on Friday that India is one of the four polio endemic countries in the world.

The other three polio endemic countries are Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.

He said that the Rotary would launch the “End Polio Now” campaign and urge people to take a pledge.

The names of those who take the pledge will be displayed on a gigantic banner ahead of the next National Immunisation Day in January 2011.
