A portion of the newly laid road near the underground section of Namma Metro at Majestic caved in while a truck carrying goods was plying near the edge of the road on Saturday night.

The incident caused the wheels of the truck to sink into the road and the vehicle was stuck. Authorities of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), reached the spot and patched up the road by morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck was moving towards Chikkaballapura from Chikpete when the rear wheels sunk in. Truck driver Hariprasad called the control room and later BMRCL authorities. In the wee hours on Sunday, the BMRCL officials pulled out the truck and patched up the road.

BMRCL officials told The Hindu that the road caved in nearly 60 feet away from the station. With the road caving in, officials confirmed that the Metro operations were not affected and neither was there any damage to the underground station.

The police, who examined the area, said that seepage from water pipes could have caused the road to cave in.
