Rights groups want CBI probe into blast

‘Police have falsely implicated innocent people’

May 26, 2013 09:15 am | Updated 09:15 am IST - BANGALORE:

Human rights activists have demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe the Malleswaram blast case, alleging that the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police have been falsely implicating innocent people.

In a press statement here on Saturday, members of the National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) accused the State police of colluding with the former Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Referring to its own fact-finding committee, the NCHRO said there were several contradictions in the police investigations.

“[Our] fact-finding committee found a lot of material contradictions in the reports. Therefore [we] visited the place of occurrence, enquired with the nearby people, interviewed the lawyers appearing for some of the remanded prisoners… What had happened in the Malegaon blast, Samjhauta Express (bombings), and Ajmer Dargah blast triggered allegedly by Hindutva fundamental outfits has been repeated here,” the statement from the group said, suspecting the timing of the April 17 blast that occurred in the run-up to the Assembly elections in the State.
