Rights groups appeal to international bodies

January 26, 2013 08:57 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:29 pm IST - Bangalore:

Rights groups, fighting for the thousands evicted from their sheds in the Ejipura shanty town over the week, have appealed to the Housing and Land Rights Network of Habitat International Coalition, a network of housing rights groups, and the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements, to intervene.

In the appeal sent to both the organisations, the rights groups have appealed to them to pressure the city administration here to fulfil the human right to adequate housing and compensate the evacuees.

In the appeal, a copy of which is available with The Hindu , the groups accused the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) of violating Ejipura residents’ fundamental rights.
