The rift between the Department of Higher Education and Raj Bhavan appears to have widened.

Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala and Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi have expressed difference of opinion over choice of appointment of Vice-Chancellors, which has led to the Vice-Chancellor posts in several universities vacant.

The matter has now reached the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with the Governor asking him to “control” his Cabinet colleague.

Without mentioning the name of Mr. Rayaraddi, he referred to statements made by the Minister, who had lashed out against the Raj Bhavan for the delay in appointment of Vice-Chancellors to various universities. He reportedly told Mr. Siddaramaiah to advice Mr. Rayaraddi failing which he (Governor) would find his ways of doing so.

Mr. Rayaraddi had said that it was “unfortunate” that some files pertaining to the appointment of Vice-Chancellors was returned by the Governor and Chancellor of universities.
