Killing Veerappan is a film loosely based on the life of forest brigand Veerappan, directed by Ram Gopal Varma. What makes it very special is that it is the director’s first film in Kannada and the lead will be played by Shivarajkumar, whose father and matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar was abducted by the sandalwood smuggler.

Killing Veerappan is expected to go into production on Friday, which happens to be the birth anniversary of Dr. Rajkumar. The late actor was kidnapped by Veerappan and kept hostage for 108 days.

Mr. Shivarajkumar is essaying the role of a police officer who leads the operation that results in the elimination of Veerappan. It is learnt that Mr. Varma is planning a multilingual film. In a release, Mr. Varma said, “I've been interested to do a film on Veerappan for years and I finally got the most perfect script, which I think will be the greatest portrayal of the phenomenon of Veerappan.” He said the “true story” of Veerappan he gathered from sources was highly exciting.

“The biggest hero for me is the man who killed the biggest villain Veerappan. So this is the actual untold and unknown true story of that hero,” he said.
