Distressed about the deplorable condition of roads, lack of sewage lines and street lights, around 200 residents of Tubarahalli took to the streets on Saturday morning to draw the attention of the civic body.
Armed with signs and placards, they asked the BBMP to wake up and resolve the issues.
Tubarahalli Road, which leads to Kundalahalli, has two schools and more than six apartment blocks. The pothole-ridden road has not had proper sewage lines or street lights for the last six years, say residents.
“The authorities have not repaired the road despite several pleas. We are all taxpayers. We deserve these basic amenities from the BBMP,” said Pradeep Bagchi, a resident.
Madhura Bhagwat, a trainer at an institute and a resident, said that there have been numerous instances where mothers who come to drop off their children in schools in their two-wheelers, have skid and fallen. “This is our second protest in 15 days. The last time the BBMP commissioner assured us that the situation would be rectified within the next 10 days. Civic workers came and levelled the road with some mud, but nothing else has been done,” she said.
Accidents are common on this road. One resident recalled witnessing a mother and child on a two-wheeler falling as they tried to avoid a pothole.
Protesters stopped buses plying on the road. The police arrested two persons, but released them later following the intervention of the councillor Shwetha Vijayakumar. She assured residents that the issue will be taken up on priority and she would discuss with the BBMP how to resolve the issues raised by them.
