While German President Joachim Gauck attended meetings with industry and government representatives on the first day of his three-day visit here on Friday, his wife Daniela Schadt visited BOSCO Mane at Chamarajpet to interact with the rescued runaways.
During her two-hour visit, Ms. Schadt visited the rescue booth at platform 2 of the City railway station, where she was welcomed by the BOSCO band and Railway officials including divisional railway manager Anilkumar Agarwal.
Sitting with the rescue team in the tiny booth, she asked them about the calls they received and how they identified a runaway child.
George P.S., executive director of BOSCO Mane, said she was moved by some of the cases they narrated.
Ms. Schadt lauded their efforts and highlighted to them the importance of the work they do.
She also interacted with the children. Abhisurya, who has been at BOSCO for the past two years, said that unlike other children, he was lucky to be able to continue his education. He said he was the class leader of St. Joseph’s School in Chamarajpet and was in the State hockey team.
The children had lots of questions for their visitor: do you like our home? What Indian food do you like? How are the schools in Germany?
Traditional dance The youngsters also performed a traditional dance highlighting the country’s heritage.
