The interim report, which will catalogue the extent of lake encroachment in the city, will be submitted before the 11-member legislative assembly committee formed to look into encroachments on June 9.
On Wednesday, the team had completed a second round of lake visits. The two-day visits saw nearly 19 lakes in Bengaluru South and East being covered. “We planned to bring the interim report before the committee on June 9. We planned to do it on June 3, but the members will be busy with the gram panchayati polls,” said K.B. Koliwad, who heads the committee. The polls are being held on June 2, while results will be declared on June 5.
The committee is looking into encroachments at nearly 1,718 lakes in Bengaluru Urban district. With numerous landowners telling the committee that their purchase of land was done through legal documents, Mr. Koliwad told reporters that the main objective would be to shield the innocent land buyers and punish colluding officials and landgrabbers.
The ways of doing this, however, was yet to be decided with each member having their “own ideas”, said MLA Suresh Kumar who is a part of the committee.
