At a time when quality healthcare is a distant dream to the poor with public health services inadequate and private hospitals beyond their reach, Indian Red Cross Society has stepped in to help at least a handful of the needy.

The society has tied up with a private hospital to provide cashless treatment to those who cannot afford it. What is important here is that the patients will be considered for free treatment even if they do not have Below Poverty Line cards issued by the government.

“Through this collaboration with Sapthagiri Hospital on Hesarghatta Main Road, we will take forward our initiative to provide health for all. We are also exploring similar collaborations with other private hospitals,” said T.N. Ravi Kumar, member of the managing committee of the State branch of Indian Red Cross Society.

He said patients approved by a committee from the society would be referred for treatment. In return, the society will provide free blood to the hospital. “More than 20 patients have already availed themselves of this facility in the last one month. As per the MoU signed between us, the hospital will set aside four beds for patients referred by Red Cross Society,” he said. The society can be contacted on 22264205.
