The city was brought to its knees by a spell of heavy rain on Saturday evening. Between 8.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m., the city received more than 50 mm of rain. This is significant considering that the average rainfall in the entire month of November is 57.2 mm.

The rain turned roads into rivulets. Many places were flooded. People and vehicles were stuck as roads were filled with water. There were reports of vehicles getting stuck at Seshadripuram, Okalipuram, Mehkri Circle, J.C. Road, Shantinagar, Double Road, Richmond Town and Tagore Circle. Traffic was thrown out of gear. Motorists were forced to struggle in bumper-to-bumper traffic in many parts of the central business district. A bus was stuck at the Kino theatre underpass in Seshadripuram. The passengers are safe.

BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayan, who was monitoring the BBMP’s control rooms, said that the civic body’s emergency teams had been despatched to various parts of the city to deal with complaints.
