For the last one year, women hold sway in the administration of Ramanagaram district. Starting from the top position of Deputy Commissioner, at least 15 senior Class I grade women officials are in charge of various departments.

B.R. Mamatha, Deputy Commissioner, claimed that this is among the highest number of Senior Class I Grade women officials in the State. “The number is increasing since the last one year,” she told The Hindu .

The district stands second in achieving the targets fixed in Housing and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) schemes.

“Women officials are good listeners and their analytical skills are enormous. Most importantly, they are punctual and easily accessible to the public,” another officer told The Hindu on Tuesday.

“Ramanagaram is very close to achieving the open defecation-free (ODF) status under the Swachch Bharath Mission. My focus is on achieving the ODF status as quickly as possible, as it has a direct bearing on women’s health and safety,” said C.P. Shylaja, Chief Executive Officer, Ramanagaram Zilla Panchayat.
