Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh was among those who participated in the Mahaveer Jayanti celebrations in the city on Thursday. Many Jain temples saw a huge turnout.

Speaking at the Bhagawan Mahaveer Janma Kalyana Mahotsav, Mr. Singh said that one way to get rid of terrorism that had gripped the world is through non-violence principles that are at the heart of Jainism, a 2,400 years old religion.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured the Jain community of the government’s commitment to develop the community, besides providing financial assistance to Jan Basadis in the State. He also said that the government had decided to set up a study centre to research Jain Shasanas.

The Khandelwal Digamber Jain Samaj of Wilson Garden took out a massive rally and rath yatra.
