Sunday's rain and gusty winds exposed the lack of preparedness of civic agencies.
“Despite repeated requests, the authorities have not bothered to trim the trees in our area,” said G. Satyamurthy, president of the Sanjaynagar Residents' Welfare Association.
Rains brought fear of tree crash among the residents, he said. “During the last rain early this month, there was no power in the area for nearly 36 hours because of damage to electricity poles,” he said.
On Sunday, there were reports of tree fall and disruption in power supply after 6 p.m. The branch of a large tree was hanging over a power supply line in AECS Layout 6th Stage. “We gave representations to the Tree Officer in the BBMP to carry out trimming of trees in the area. The Tree Officer did visit the area, but action has not been taken so far. The agencies have not learnt anything from experience,” he said.
The incomplete roadworks did pose problems for motorists in several areas. A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus got stuck in a ditch near the Central Street-Cubbon Road junction where the BWSSB is yet to repair the road after completing its work.
Similar incomplete work had created a manhole at the Krishna Mills Junction. Improper road restoration had led to the damage to the road near St. Joseph's College on Residency Road.
The motorists had difficulty in driving through the water-logged roads. Ulsoor Road, for instance, is full of potholes which were under sheets of water. Cambridge Layout saw several trees crash and the drains were clogged.
